Stocked Jacks - whats the pattern?

All this talk about Mangrove Jacks lately, makes me wonder about the Dams that have been stocked with them. You hear very little about them getting caught, I dont know of anyone who has \"cracked the pattern\" and regulary targets / catches them.

I know a bloke who picked up a 50cm Jack at Awoonga in October, but it was by-catch on a squidgy pro casting at snags for Barra. It's certainly not a way they are normally caught (well lots of people fish for Barra like that, not many Jacks reported caught though).

Its just got to be a matter time, look at how winter Bass fishing changed when everyone twigged they schooled up on the flats in deep water in winter, before that the word was you could not catch bass in winter!

Now there appears to be a pattern emerging for Barra in winter, southern edges of warm shallow bays is the place to be in winter.

So who will crack the Jack pattern in impoundments?

I think they put in a few thousand a year Lee, (I'll look into it) but they rarely show up in the catch, like only a few a year. (They do find them when they do the electrofish checks, so they are not just dying off).

I reckon that sooner or later one of these gun fisho's is going to get sick of trolling for big barra, and start hunting the Jacks!

Well interestingly enough, there are a couple of blokes on Fishingtales site who are starting to get a few Jacks out of Awoonga, have a look at this one, they got 2 this size a night or two ago.
