first overhead combo?

hey guys just wondering if yous have any recommendations or anyhitng like that on a firts overhead combo that i wanna buy?? only really want it for small lures and estury type fishing, any brands i should get?

a 4-8lb, 1/16-1/4 casting weight GL3-GLX, T curve or similar rod paried with a daiwa ALPHAS 103/scorpion 1000 both PURPLE will be an ideal combo for jigs and plastics fishing.

same rods with a shimano calais 100a will be fantastic for moving baits like cranks and topwaters.

the rod's around 300 i guess and the reel won't be over 300 if ur importing on ebay.com.

calais 100a will be really expensive though.

For around $150, you can pick up a Pfluegar Echelon combo http://motackle.com.au/index.cfm?pr=product&product_id=697

These are pretty good, especially for that price.

For a bit more, you could get a Shimano Cruxis reel http://motackle.com.au/index.cfm?pr=product&product_id=401 and match it to something like a Berkley Dropshot Rod. That would come in around $270 or so.

Both are great, but the Shimano/Dropshot combo would probably be better (obvious by cost). It would last longer and the Cruxis has got incredible drag capabilties. Not needed for what you want it for I guess, but it would be good to have confidence in the drag.

I have a higher priced Pfluegar reel (President WLP) and it has been through a lot in the 1.5yrs that I've had it for and hasn't skipped a beat. Excellant quality reel and I'd assume that the Echelon would be just as well made:cheer:

The plueger echelon combo retails around the $150 and it has a pretty good free spool on it so would be suitable for casting most bass sized lures 50mm+. If your looking to cast bream sized minnows <50mm then a spinning combo is probably more suitable.

i have the pfluger echelon and a pfluger 5ft6 trion 1(piece rod) for sale, few ppl looking at it mine is practicaly brand new have only used it once for about 2hrs, and has some 8lb platypus platinum spooled on it. letting it go for $80

haha, overhead combo for sx40s....... i think he meant baitcaster.

i almost think a bait caster is unpractical for throwing sx40's around..especially if your a novice..i think they are better suited to heavier barra/spinner bait lures.

i would suggest a $300 spin combo.
