queensland Macleay and Goat Islands 27/5

Went for a bit of a flick around the southern bay islands this afternoon targeting squire...not too much luck at Macleay apart from one just legal and the usual sway of by-catch. Decided to go give Goat a go in the late afternoon and on the way over happened on a school of spotted mackerel...flicked our plastics at them but were promptly bitten off..not until we switched to traces and slugs were we able to land one...measured in at 78cms so was pretty happy as this is my first mackerel. Goat was slow as well apart from regular hits by undersize squire and lots of lost tackle on the rocks...good day though.

The eastern side near the isolated danger beacon...have been there a few times but there seems to be only small squire there..have never really got anything sizeable from there.

i havent caught a spotted mack since my teens in hervey bay - i hereby declare to lick and kiss the feet of anyone who gets me out to catch a mackerel!
