Marlin on a hand line

I mentioned before in an earlier post that my son caught a marlin on a hand line while doing navy boarder patrols accross the top end.

Here's a pic - it's not very good but it shows the story - to put the size in perspective the the fish was 8mtres below the deck and the landing poll was 30foot long.

He was using 100lb hand line tied to the gun post.

But his mate uses rope instead of line and wire cable instead of traces.

It swam away with 2 lures still attached.

That's working;) [img size=493]http://www.australianfishing.com.au/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/marlin.JPG

All I can get is - it's the friggin biggest thing he's ever seen - and it made a hell of a bank when it rammed the boat. I suppose it's hard to judge size from so high up.

And before anyone askes - it's not a gaf with metal hook - it's one of those long boarding polls with a plastic head used to grab the cleets on docks. They use it to try and get the lures back.

The 2nd lure was in the tail - it got hooked when they were bringing in the other lines.

Apartently they run as many as 15 lines - oh mr heart - what a mess.
