SOFT PLASTICS

It depends on many things as to what jigheads you use. Like; what the bottom is like, how deep it is, how strong the current is and of course what fish you're targeting.

If your fishing for Bream over or around structure like rock reefs, pylons, pontoons, etc. then you would want a very light jighead around 1/32th oz. - Unweighted. Also you wouldn't use high jerks like you would with Flathead. Just a double twitch making the lure kick up twice about 5-10cms then letting it sit/drop for about 5 seconds then doing the same double twitch. If you are over a rocky bottom then reeling in very slowly while constantly wiggling the rod tip it keeps the plastic just off the bottom and snags, right where the Bream are. Also you'de want about 4-6lb fluorocarbon leader and 4lb braid depending on your chances of larger by catch like Cod and Flathead.

For Flathead over mud/sand flats the only thing you need to really worry about is current. Use anything from 1/8th oz. upto around 1/2 oz. Having such a heavy jighead will keep it in the mud/sand, in the strike zone where all Flathead are. For Flathead use about 10lb minimum fluorocarbon leader with around 6-8lb braid. It's good to get a reel that comes with a spare spool so you can change from Bream to Flathead when you desire. Or you could have 2 different combos for different tasks.

As for plastic of choice I would use a 3\" Berkley Powerbait Power Minnow in Pearl Watermelon colour for both Bream and Flathead. Of course they will catch a lot more then just Bream and Flathead.
