Image resizing

Feral

Recommended Posts

Cant remember if I have posted this before (Search tells me No). If I have put it down to dementia.

Certain people have a bit of trouble with the need to resize images on the AFO forum, so I am in the process of writing a bit software to do it simply, (and possibly lower my post count rate!).

You simply locate file using the software, highlight it (it will show you the picture as you click on the file) and click the button and it makes a version of the file suitably sized, with the same name, but with AFO added to the end of it so you know which is the right sized one.

The AFO forum has a maximum image size of 500 x 500, and 100kbytes. So this software makes a file 499 wide x 374 high - Currently it is only suitable for landscape (horizontal) photo's, I'll write the code for vertical (portrait) later when I know it suites people.

Download it from here (about 600k)

If you do have a go with it, feedback is most welcome. (I've got broad shoulders, so if you hate it tell me so!)

Thanks Feral. Great little program as all forums make you resize your photos and its good how it automaticly saves it in the same file with a new name. It would be nice to be able pick the file path for saving. I personaly have a seperate folder for all the pics I resize.

Thanks again.

Ok updated the software.

It now

[li]lets you chose where to save your photo's

Pops a window telling you where your resized photo has gone

Allows you to save a default directory for your resized images

keeps the same aspect ratio as original image[/li]

Download it from here (about 600k)

Feral you are a deadset good egg for coming up with that. Thanks mate. You just solved my biggest problem on the site. Deadset would give you a thousand karmas if I wasnt on time out. Cheers mate.;)

No worries, the image it makes is still a little to sharp for my liking, but you only really notice it when resizing an image that is only slight to large.

I've got a better algorithm floating around somewhere, when I get time I'll adjust it.

Ok found a small error in the software, when saving the default location to copy the resized image to, it was saving that location into the default location of images spot in the registry. Have fixed that and given it its first beta number. (IE I now consider it complete, just needs further debugging)

Download it from here (about 600k)

Also here is a zip file with the software setup in an installer. Just unzip it and run \"setup.exe\" and it will install the software for you including an icon in your menu. (You dont need to download both links, the installer version also contains the program.)

You have to find your image first.

Select the drive and the directory first in the boxes on the left. Then you have to highlight the picture in the box on the right.(by clicking on the name of the image you want to resize)It will then show you the image. Click the button to make the image. The program will remind you where the saved image is.

The resized image is ready for uploading.

OK A couple of cosmetic changes to tidy it up, (get the right logo's in the right place, and change some icons.)

Short answer, its free, code and compiled versions, I do it for fun, not money. See PM for more info.

The program itself is not \"open source\" as such, it has logo's and images in it that belong to the site, and were used with permission.

Aah someone else who has that problem, I thought I was all alone. I also get it when someone has posted a long URL.

webby said something to do with formating, and he might get a chance to look at it after bedding down the new forum software.

the ulitity seems to have a little problem.

when resixzing pic from my canon 20D.

I keep getting message about selecting an image in the selection box. the image is selected t the preview display on the right hand size. it is a jpeg. could be something to do with the size of the pic. it is a huge file.

No, the algorythm cant find the file for some reason. (Thats the only time that message is prompted, if it could not process it you would get a different message). Have you copied the file to your computer, or are you doing it from the camera? (The software may not be able to pick it up off the camera).

I was just checking it and I also couldn't get the links to open:S (page couldn't be found). So if anyone wants to use it I'll see if I can put my version of Feral's AFO Resizer in the thread. I dunno what version it is but it works every time for me.

Let me know if it works:blink:

EDIT: Ok it isn't letting me upload it.

Says it's too big and of the wrong file type:dry:

Sorry guys:(
