Shovelnose Shark - Edible?

I regularly pull in shovlies when fishing out from Nudgee Creek. They are usually 60cm - 100cm in size, though I've nailed some that go over 150cm.

My question is - are they any good to eat?

They look like they would have side fillets similar to a flathead, and I know that a lot of people will eat "normal" sharks, but shovlies have been a bit of a mystery for me.

There not sharks but part of the ray family, my neighbour loves em but mint you he would eat a budgie.....

Shovelies are good eating and they have a flavour that most kids seem to enjoy.

Like a shark they are safe for kids as they have no bones.

They are delicous. Before the length rules changed too 1.5m we would cut them into roast size portions and bake them in the oven covered in garllic butter, very tasty. Mind you, if youve had fish fingers youve eaten shovellies and any/all types of shark.

shovel nose are better than fishing fingers or any processed fish stuff .

There are two very distinct species.

The larger white spot species are great as a table fish. Really firm flaky white flesh.

The smalller pinky brown ones are pretty ordinary.
