Well it was a week that went down as 1 of the best for the Wanderers group the weather was great and we got offshore 5 times we also did a bit of fishing from the shore around amity with great success.

Day 1 ; Got over there just after lunch and set about unpacking the cars running the gear inside the house then quickly readied the boats and launched them at amity and jumped the bar. Teds boat was skippered by Lance and we both headed for boat rock where only after a few hours we had a nice feed so it was a race to get back over the bar before dark.

Day 3;Sunday was to rough for fishing offshore so we went for the gorge walk around at point lookout it was a great to kick around getting gear ready again for when the weather calmed. Later in the day we all had a fish off the jetty but all we could hook with our livies were 3 dolphins

Day 4; We got up early on Monday and went fishing down next to the boat ramp off the rocks this was a hot session as we all managed to catch about 20 bonito and about a dozen slimies and yakkas on our light gear. Later on we fished from the back yard with livies under ballons with the wind carrying them out into the deep channel out front butg it was not to be on any big fish good way to kick back though with plenty of drinks just a arms reach down from your chair

The Island crew for the week was Ted / Lance / Me / Brendan / Alex / Andrew / Brad / Leslie / BJ / Angie / Gary / Erin / Payton / Ben / Eddie / Colin

Teds crew got the dollies from the wave rider bouy and the big cod came off middle reef the rest of the action was around the rock and the sevens the fishing from the rocks around the ramp was a ball of fun on the bonito etc. Will have to organise another 1 of these weeks again for sure will look at getting g the house next to the 1 we had as it was a lot better quality bedding and a lot more room all round.

Big thanks to Mark and Lance for organising the week away. Great fun had by all.

For me it was my first ever off shore fishing so just about everything I got was a first or PB. Thank to Ted for the trips out on his boat. Once again, The Walrus delivered in spades.

First legal offshore fish (some sort of Wrasse).

After thinking I might have hooked up to a sting ray, up came this 118cm cod.

Unfortunately, there was no way we could let this one go and expect it to survive. Came out of fairly deep water and took 20mins or so to boat (you can see the swim bladder has popped). We had all been sharked a few times that morning so it really had no chance. Thankfully the fish wasn't going to be wasted.

First tuna.

And a PB snapper taken on Col's boat.

Thats awesome mate.

Looks like a cracker trip.

Im dying inside seeing all these fish caught off straddie. Havnt being out there in over month.

Thats a cracker Andrew. I bet it went hard. What did damage. What gear did you get it on.

Awesome dollies ted too.

I hear your the new COD whispher.

I wonder if the temp change has anything to do with all these big cod caught everywere. My mates have being getting massive ones off GC too.

First of all thanks to everyone who came over and spent time on the island and made it such an incredible trip away.

Also a huge thanks again to Ted for trusting me with his boat for the first couple of days while he was with his boys playing rugby.

The weather was all over the place for the week but with only a 2 minute run to the bar we could either fish the mornings or the arvos depending on what the wind or the bar was doing.

This allowed us to fish offshore just about every day, some in average conditions and some in exceptional conditions.

Overall the fishing was great with so many big fish caught or lost for the week.

Again I have to say congratulations to Andrew for one very impressive Greasy Cod ( :P:P:P ) and a string of PB's,well done mate.

At one stage around the fire we began to count the different species caught between everyone and I think we got to around 37 species and not counting the rubbish fish or the dolphins. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Thankfully no one had any issues on the bar all week although we did have a little exciting

crossing coming back in on our last day with 2m waves breaking across the bar and a broken steering cable right on dark with near zero visibility.

Anyway thanks again everyone for making this week an incredible trip for everyone.

What happened with the seering cable? Have always been terrified of this happening to me at high speed or in a precarious situation.

It broke at near full speed as we were rushing back to cross the bar before it got too dark and threw us into a quick 360 turn.

We disconnected the cable from the steering arm and between Mark and myself we took it in turns manually steering the motor by hand back to in front of the bar.

Once there Mark manually steered the motor while I was on the throttle and we took her across the bar right on dark through some pretty daunting breaking waves.

I was yelling out either port or starboard and Ben was relaying the directions to Mark so he could steer us in the right direction.

Between Mark and myself there was no problem at all and we had a very safe crossing but it could have been very different with inexperienced guys on the boat.

While waiting for the ferry on Straddie to come home on Friday morning I jumped on the phone and ordered a nice new hydraulic steering setup for Marks boat which will be here in the morning ready for the fitup early this week.

I'd also like to reiterate what Andrew said, it was an awesome weeks fishing especially for a newbie to the group like myself who loves to get offshore but rarely gets the opportunity.

Ted was truly an awesome host and a huge huge thanks goes out to him for letting me on his boat for three straight days, eternally grateful and seriously looking forward to a follow up session! :cheer:

Also a huge thanks must go to Mark and Lance for making it the week it was, bravo boys! B)

As Andrew also mentionned, a number of PB's for myself too, was such a great week and a number of new friends made! Let's just hope I can stay in the country longer to get a repeat of this epic fun!

It just broke and the boat spun around but my boat can go full lock at full throttle with out leaning over at all my biggest worry was getting over the bar before it got to dark to see the waves at all. Should be all good with hydraulic steering now cant wait to have light steering for once cable steering has always been tight
