G'day from boleropilot

Well here we are back on the water after about 40 years or so.  Used to run around Moreton Bay in a 14 foot runabout, me, the Captain, and two corgis.  The Captain and I have been hitched for 51 years this year, still got two corgis, not the same ones.  You guessed that, didn't you...

Being retired is a tiring process, so we decided to have a crack at a new hobby.  This includes a 1984 Nova 5.5m half cabin with a 1986 Johnson 140hp outboard.  Yes they are quite old (so are we) but they have been looked after quite well, with the hull being recently restored by a salty old sea dog who actually spent about 20 years of his life sailing around the world in a ferro Roberts 43 that he built himself.  Nuff said about his resto skills.

Living on acreage halfway betwixt Ipswich and Boonah (Scenic Rim) we are surrounded by dams well stocked with fish, with about a two hour drive to the ramp at Jacobs Well for access to the southern reaches of Moreton Bay, with Jumpinpin only a short run from Jacobs Well.  Through a series of disasters we have not yet caught a fish.  Watch this space.

Hey thanks for the welcome, much appreciated. A few replies - hey Kat - when I went off to join the army my dad said to me "son, there are two kinds of girls - the kind you marry, and the kind you don't".  I met an awful lot of the kind you don't, and that was a lot of fun.  But then I finally bumped into a Yorkshire Lass who was definitely the kind you do, and the rest is history.  In a few respects we are total opposites - I loved skydiving, paragliding, and my ultralight aircraft (with no doors).  I don't know how I managed to get her on the triple loop roller coaster at Dreamworld, and she got an award for "Best Screamer of the Week".  I thought it was boring. 

Angry 51 - g'day m8, we have two trips upcoming - Lake Dyer (nr. Laidley) next week for a day trip, and mid-October a 3 day stay at a cottage that is virtually on the banks of Lake Glenlyon (nr. Stanthorpe).  I will of course post details of both trips.

By now you will have noticed that my fingers are hard to stop once they hit the keyboard.  Please don't hesitate to tell me to back off if I get too windy.  Cheers,

I don't think I've ever seen a corgi with a tail.

What is their temperament like ?

Two types, Cardigan and Pembrokeshire.  Cardigans historically always have tails, but they all have tails these days (if born with one) because docking is now illegal.  They are terrific little dogs, very 'owner' focused so they don't take much notice of other humans.  They love playing with kids though, they will run until they drop.

Our current boy (Bernie - sable and white) is very timid, I've seen him chased out of the room by a horsefly.  But if the brahman bulls come up into the paddock alongside the house, he's into them like a rocket, doesn't matter how many or how big, he's got the genes, so he knows what to do.  We try to make sure he doesn't do it for two reasons.  One, he could very easily get a kick in the head that would kill him.  Two, he comes back to the house covered in shite and bull pee and then wants to curl up in front of the fire...

Very good watchdogs, they let you know if anything is around, even snakes.  Oh, and they LOVE the ute!!!

You are not wrong here, parents have a pembroke and if you play fetch, he will run all day or until your arm breaks off from so many throws.

Thanks Hweebe, Lake Dyer next week our next adventure.  Corgis all have different temperments - the first two we had (Sheba I and Bernie I), one was a water rat, the other needed a shove to get him off the boat...
