Grassies Galore

Went out with @Kat today over to the Rous Channel. We were hoping for some mackerel and as always trying to tempt some grassies and tuskies to eat our baits. Cuttlefish was the choice of bait today.

We deployed our pillies under floats and then set about securing some reefies. I managed a squid on a 5/0 to start the count. Kat hooked up to a baby tailor on the her mack line.

Things were quiet apart from the abundant turtles surfacing all around us and the occasional dugong. Eventually Kat brought in an undersize grassie to get off the donut. Then there was a bit of screaming drag with the end result a 41.5cm grassie. Woohoo...dinner sorted.

Then it was my turn with a feisty 46cm model that also gave the drag a workout. Dinner sorted for me too.

Then it was Kat's turn again with a 39 model

After that there was a 34 to Kat that didn't make the 'picture required' category, along with a few unders grassies and squire.

No tuskies today and no mackerel either.

It was a smidgeon off a glassout all day and we motored home satisfied to have some entries to the comp.

Thanks for coming out Kat. A bit slow but a productive day and your side of the boat won again.

Also, @Kat got this towards the end of the day. A quick text to Benno for an ID and he was straight back with A Blue Maori Cod / Cattledog Cod. Pretty little creature.

Yes it was very pretty when it swam away.  Gorgeous colouring

Brian forgot to mention the most annoying part of the day.  Time was up so we pulled in the mackerel lines and disposed of the uneaten pillies.  And before we started the motor and pulled anchor one or probably two schools, of what were almost certainly mackerel, swam under the boat!

...and butterflies. There were hundreds of butterflies. As well as 1000's of baby house flies and midges.

Top day out @Katand @ellicat  Very pretty cod. Hope the Mac’s turn up in numbers soon. Northsiders are conspicuously absent from the comp leaderboard so far

It's a habit now.  Don't even know I am wearing it anymore, except for when I get a bit hot.  I would say more to your response but it is a family site.

Just teasing you Kat I wear mine at all times on the water too. It’s a good habit, rather than a bad one!
