IGFA Record

Wow, nice fish.

I can't help but notice how poorly the line is wound onto the reel though :o Oh well, she is only 10, I'm sure the last thing on her mind was winding on the line properly with that fish!

My question is, how can they prove that she didn't get help?

Once again, wow.

The lure is a Braid Marauder, toothy wahoo eat'em up. He orders four

dozen at a time from Braid with a special paint job .... they're deadly.

They can't take a chance, IGFA would band them for life, boat too. The

boats video camera was going the whole time.

Hey Terry

I think you answered your own question. Have a look at the spool - only a kid would do that!:woohoo: :silly:

Gday mate, very true about the IGFA with their regulations for records.

The serious anglers are now taking videos, trying to speed it up.

They've also went to tag & release records ... no other way.

The area is Venice,La ... I've never seen a kayak there, you'd love it.

100's of sq miles of waterways ... plenty fish and no fishermen.

ESPN had it as one of the hottest spots in the world in '04' and then

Hurricane Katrina put a 35 ft tidal surge over it in '05' wiping it out.

It's coming back bigger and better now and very few fished it in '05'

It'd be the last thing on anyone's mind to wind the line on evenly with a fish like that.

Also, what weight drag was set on the reel? My brother caught a couple of wahoo in Vanuatu, 8 and 13kg, and even he, who is 16, had trouble holding onto the reel when they took off. The reel was a Shimano Tiagra similar in size to that reel.

You're right about that ... it's harder than people think, especially for a kid.

Wahoo have a very hard mouth and require heavy drag to set the hook,

you're lucky to get a 50% hookup ratio at 20 lbs of drag after a hit and a

long run. You're pulling 4 or more lines with the rods in the pole holders,

the butt of a 6 ft rod will have about 120 lbs of pressure on it, locking it in

the holder. You have to ease off the drag enough to get it out of the holder,

put it in your fighting belt or chair by yourself .... IGFA rules.

Grown men have got excited, free spooled and it backlashes and breaks.
