Average Shark Caught On Redcliffe Reefs?

going out for a fish soon out on the reef around scotts point and maybe up to scarby reef. whilst targetting bream and snapper i am keen to chuck out my shark rig out the back, as i am wanting to do this i am unsure of what size they are. whether i need a minor wire traces, heavy mono or 200lb wire or 400lb wire. i am presuming i wll get away with 60-80lb mono as a trace. please help.

Id go with 100lb wire trace mate. Should handle sharks around the 3 - 5foot range

I've seen one around 7foot mark hooked at north reef it was to big to consider bringing aboard his tinny

100lb wire will deal with anything you find inside the bay. be sure to get nylon coated wire. good luck!!!

100lb will handle most fish. In fact its prob over kill for most bay sharks. However there are some monsters out there

I couldn't see you need anything more than 100lb.

My old man caught a 4 ft bull recently on 12lb in the river, but that was a complete fluke ey dad?

That is just for the wire trace. Mainline can be around 10-30lb for most Sharks (granted you have decent line capacity for the bigger models)

thanks for that i went out last week but no hits although something large followed up the berley trail but was not interested, it would of been about 6-7 foot. i use a okuma titus with about 400m of 40 lb mono, with either a heavy 3m wire trace or 60-100lb leader( about 2-4m) then onto a 40cm 100lb wire trace.

bugger the big guy didn't have a go! i find using tailor as bait works very well in winter time, owing to them being around all over the place.
