A couple of spare days and good weather lined up so I packed up the yak with camping gear and paddled to peel island for an overnighter; a trip I've had in mind for a while. 

After loading the tent, bedding and a plethora of the usual camping utensils I had room left for approximately 2 potatoes (and of course I had enough space for a coffee grinder and filter setup). The plan was to catch a fish for dinner or go hungry.

Upon arrival and setting up camp I had a much needed nap, followed by a sleepy trudge across the flats with a fishing rod in hand. Second cast in I got a nice flathead for dinner. That was a bit easy for a change

A chilled afternoon and early nights sleep was had, and a beautiful glassed out paddle home this morning at dawn.  No more fish to report

Are you aloud to camp in Horseshoe bay? Great spot. 

I would be keen to do an overnighter there one time. 

Great that you can be so independent and fit that all in a yak. 

You could try Blakesley's too.

Yeah mate! Most of the beach allowed camping it looked like. Cost me $6 for the night, print out tag and stick on tent

I have the suitable gear to fit in the yak I guess; got the hiking camping setup so it all fits in a backpack normally anyway

Would be an absolute mission from the mainland though especially if weather turned bad!

There were a few people this year that needed rescuing from Peel Island. They had yaked over and couldn't get back.

Possibly a different case, but yes there was a group of students staying on Straddie who kayaked from dunwich to peel. The conditions were poor on the way back and 3 were found by the water taxi. 2 became lost overnight and unfortunately one of them was found in the Rous channel deceased the next morning.

That's a nice yak. Shame you only got one fish but would've been a great just being there.
