Well I have lashed out on a new outfit for the classic.

I have gone traditional with a glass model, 50lb mono, and Mustad 8/0 live bait hook.

what a \"bottler\" of a rig! More fish have been caught with gear just like that over the years than I'll ever see.

Shark or Salmon. A Couple of turns about one of the rear cleats, float it out on the tide, and if I catch something on it, I'll crow about it until next years comp!

Lets see costs....

I think the coke was about $2.50 at the local pub.

The Jarvis Walker 50lb mono was about $6 for a 500m spool of 50lb

The Mustads I think were about $3.50 for a pack of three.

So pretty top end, cost me over $10

i got an early chrissy present from the missus especially so i can use it for the comp. all my other rods and reels are crapola. i would probably be better off with one of your set ups Feral.

shimano calais dc7 (20lb berkley flurocarbon)

shimano Metanium MG7 (23lb varivas casting pe 23lb)

english match rod 4.27m with

shimano AXIS 100 (23lb varivas seabass pe 23lb)

Its me and callums (flathead) gear combined , We own 1 sx40 each and 1 ck40 each, and callum owns all 3 rapalas and hes not sure what type they are he got 3 of em for $50 in NZ last year . Show us your gear kevin

i am not gonna use lures in the BRC though. the rods and reels r 2 relies up

How come ure using flurocarbon on a bc kev? How does it go, isnt berkley flurocarbon thicker and stiffer then most mono's?

yes, very thick and stiff. low stretch means more sensitivity and some stretch( compare to braid) means the fish cannot throw the hook easily.

when casting for super long distance, i prefer some stretch on the line as well.

i want the thickness of the flurocarbon for more abbressive resistance. i will use DC7 for jack and cod in heavy cover.
