well i bought some braid for the first time this week....i have used it once or twice on other peoples rods while out on the water but never had any of my own.....so i have studied the knots and spooled up and im pretty sure the knots are ok....its going to be interesting to see if my hook up rate will increase....how exciting:P

did you guys definatly experince better hook up rates when u made the switch?

My only problem with braid is it cuts your fingers! holding onto the line while a fish is on is not the smartest idea! My hook ups were 10x better and that was when I was using bait. Tim

My only problem is that it takes a long time to cut exess off the knot. I can't say much about hook up rates. The only thing I've caught on my braid, which is on a light, lure casting, baitcaster, is a small Octopus that was swimming past the boat. I put out a Sp and it dived on it. But my brother seams to catch a fair bit using his braid, but his is when he uses bait.

my catch rate went through the roof, i now know every rotten 100mm long bait thieving catfish in the breamer river by name:silly:

but seriously its great stuff when bait fishing you feel every little touch, i've caught heaps of reefies and tuna on it using bait and macks, tuna, trevs using spinners and poppers on both braided and fusion ithink i've got 8 or nine reels filled with it

James i certainly noticed the difference.

I only moved to braid this year (around April or so) and my catches this year have shamed previous years.

Mate next time we are at Baroon you will notice the difference! You will be able to feel the Bass swim past your lure let alone feel them strike

lol.......i just hate missing fish.....ask angus how \"cut\" i get if i miss one or even worse get busted up.....thought braid might give me more hook ups....losing a lot of bream on sps with slack line...dont want that to happen in the comp:P

I have been playing with 4 lb fireline the ;ast month or so and have been busted of quite a few times in the snags of tinny creek and find that the mono leader cuts through the braid occasionally but have found my hook up rates a lot better

Braid scissors, or a small set of nail clippers or sidecutting pliers will take of that for you.

yer i got a pair of braid snips....was thinking this morning that when fighting a fish, ive never worried bout the knot holding or not but now that im using braid:unsure: its in the back of my mind:blush:

Well to make you feel better mate, i only use the Blood Knot to Blood Knot and you have seen me land a few fish and never had a knot fail. I have only had knots fail on snags, and well yeah thats kind of expected.

I used to use blood to blood aswell angus but then I tried double uni. Way stronger connection!

I got some nail clippers and that takes care of any mono i can fit into them but even 12lb braid is very hard to cut through

brought a pair of so called jw brand braid sizzors while they will cut 10 lb leader they are useless for 6 and 10 lb braid there is too much play in the rivett and they just fray the line . now i just use a knife. the worse thing about both of them they still cut the main line instead of the tag end half of the time.

i've got a copy of geoff wilsons complete book of fishing knots, it's got a section on braid knots and improvements for standard knots when using braid. i'll bring it with me on friday and leave it with the officials for anyone who wants a look

I've never been able to get a blood knot to pull tight in mono. little own braid! I've always used a half blood knot on mono.
