'Micro' spin reels

Mr FeLiX

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all,

Considering getting a 'micro' spinning reel (1000 size) on a Loomis or similar to act as a replacement to my CI-4 and T-curve. Would be used for casting micro hardbodies, topwaters and plastics.

Does anyone have any suggestions? My main priorities are sensitivity and weight.

To fish 1-2Kg Lines

Thanks

Felix

Mr felix

I have a shimano Siena 1000 which I use on a 6 foot shimano katana rod for soft plastics and other lures. Its a nice setup for light stuff but would say that the reel capacity is a bit on the low side and I personally think that i get more wind knots with this than a larger reel due to the small diameter spool.

That being said it is very light and i hasent developed any faults as of yet.

Hope this helps

Cheers Hunter

I use a Loomis SJR 720 mag light with a 1000 sized Twin Power hanging off it for my light creek outfit and I love it.

I've gone pretty heavy on the line (8lb Super PE )because some of the places I go get pretty wild.

I find this setup...even with heavy line able to cast tiny lures a mile.

It is quite tiny and looks like a toy but it sure has landed some good bass.

SX48's, LuckyCraft Clutches, Tiemco red peppers and 1/4 ounce spinner baits are tied on a lot and seem perfect for this rod and reel.

depending on how light you want it, you'll get more casting distance out of a 2500 reel than a 1000

personally i find a light rod with a 2500 weightless enough but everyones opinion is different

Ditto

There is no advantage in 1000/1500 size reels, a few grams in weight being the only one

2500 casts a lot further, a good quality reel has a drag that will have no issue with even 1 lb , for the cost of a spare spool you have two reels, a faster retreive ratio when you need it etc etc. As my 1500 size reels have died have replaced them with 2500's

if you're gonna go a loomis rod... go a likewise reel.. (which I'm guessing you would have been looking at anyway)... something like atleast TwinPower or stradic 1000, or any of the higher end Daiwas in the 1003 size...

I've just had a look at the Luvias, and the 2500 size seems to fit the bill. Will have a browse at a twinpower soon. Will a 2500 size reel still be fine for micro-light lures?

Just quickly guys, the only other 1000 sized reel i've owned was a slade 1000 on my raider when I first started going ultra light. I just found it a great reel, light weight and it could put hurt on most of the fish I encountared. Obviously ubgrading from a slade, but I'm just stating the reason for wanting a smaller reel (1000)

My 2500's with ultra light braid or fluro cast 2 gram lures or unweighted plastics a lot further than 1000/1500. the Luvias 2500 is great reel for the price.

After reviewing both the twin power and the Luvias custom, there seems to be more features found on daiwas' offering.

I am, however, still stuck on whether to go a 1000 sized reel or a 2500 sized reel (based on shimano sizing)

Might go down to tackle warehouse and try a few on for size tomorrow night. Have to have a look through the Loomis range anyway, see what feels good

honestly... you've just sold your stradic ci4.... why go to another 2500?? You should have just kept the ci4...

I see your point Do$tylz, btu the Stradic CI-4 just wasn't what it was 'talked' up to be. It was a great 'all rounder' for general use and it was great at catching pike B) but I really should of considered what I wanted the reel for, and not just trusted all the hype and specs

Don't get me wrong, it is a great package offered by Shimano, but I plan to specialise in only a few certain areas of fishing, and with the majority localised around the catch and release of smaller species (Bream, Whiting, etc) I plan to have an outfit essentially only for that very purpose.

I'm not trying to aggrevate anyone with this thread, I was only asking for advice guys. My appologies, I should of been far more specific with my questions.
