What Are The Best Taylor Rigs

Hi All,

I'm keen to try some Taylor fishing this season cause I've never caught one before. Any advice on rigs, times of the tide or anything at all. Do they hit metal lures??

Dawn and dusk, gang of 4 x 4/0 hooks, wire trace of you like. Pilchards for bait.No lead unless you need extra distance in the cast.

Yes they will take metal slugs.

ditto for what Feral has said. That's the way I set up my rig. Only difference is that I use a smallish bean sinker for casting purposes only, and don't bother with a trace due to the ganged hooks.

basically my surf setup is like this. line to swivel -> bean sinker on 30cm of line -> another swivel -> 40cm trace of mono to 4 4/0 ganged hooks.

I use a Gary Howard Chopper Special one piece rod combined with a alvey 6500bcv reel. Nicely balanced outfit for my liking.

Land based - any surf gutter, manly harbour wall.

Boat based, South west of Snipe island on the drop off.

Try the southport pumping jetty. I use the same set up as Feral but I use lead to cast off the jetty then slowy retrive the pillie like a lure. If you go to the pumping jetty use decent line like 20lb because its a fair height from the water.

Surf side of Bribie's pretty good, specially the reaches at the northern end. If you're heading up Noosa way, try Cooloola or around Double Island.

I guess the obviouse spot for Tailor is Fraser Island, but it's a fair way to go to be crowded on a beach.
