Good to see you are very close to getting on the water.

Tomorrow looks as good as it gets weather wise, but expect it will be busy at the ramps.

I had planned to fish on the weekend but the weather is not looking that good.

It is looking better and better tomorrow

The plan is to take the family over to Stradbroke island, Dump them off at Cylinder beach then head out. I recon the wave rider will be packed but still worth a go.

Baby amberjack? If so, how cool!!  We went to the Wynnum Anzac service and then drove along the Wynnum waterfront to my sister in-laws and wow, the bay was looking picture perfect!!!  Wife's neck is buggered and son has an earlier soccer training session so no action for me today unfortunately - was thinking Sunday but then remembered we have the meeting and seminar ......... the following weekend!!!

@timtam_ Have since removed the 'Fat Dog' name .......

Hope you are not superstitious.😥

Cheers

Ray

Begin by invoking the name of the ruler of the deep as follows:

Oh mighty and great ruler of the seas and oceans, to whom all ships and we who venture upon your vast domain are required to pay homage, implore you in your graciousness to expunge for all time from your records and recollection the name (here insert the old name of your vessel) which has ceased to be an entity in your kingdom. As proof thereof, we submit this ingot bearing her name to be corrupted through your powers and forever be purged from the sea. (At this point, the prepared metal tag is dropped from the bow of the boat into the sea.)

In grateful acknowledgment of your munificence and dispensation, we offer these libations to your majesty and your court. (Pour at least half of the bottle of Champagne into the sea from East to West. The remainder may be passed among your guests.)

You must conduct the renaming ceremony immediately after the purging ceremony. For this you will need more Champagne.

Boat Renaming Ceremony -  Begin by again calling Poseidon as follows:

Oh mighty and great ruler of the seas and oceans, to whom all ships and we who venture upon your vast domain are required to pay homage, implore you in your graciousness to take unto your records and recollection this worthy vessel hereafter and for all time known as (Here insert the new name you have chosen), guarding her with your mighty arm and trident and ensuring her of safe and rapid passage throughout her journeys within your realm.

In appreciation of your munificence, dispensation and in honor of your greatness, we offer these libations to your majesty and your court. (At this point, one bottle of Champagne, less one glass for the master and one glass for the mate are poured into the sea from West to East.)

The next step in the renaming ceremony is to appease the gods of the winds. This will assure you of fair winds and smooth seas. Because the four winds are brothers, it is permissible to invoke them all at the same time, however, during the ceremony; you must address each by name.

Boat Naming Ceremony - Appeasing the Gods of the winds:

This version is for the Southern Hemisphere. For the Northern Hemisphere swap around the atributes of the wind Gods, eg:

Great Boreas, exalted ruler of the North Wind would have frigid breath instead of scalding.

Oh mighty rulers of the winds, through whose power our frail vessels traverse the wild and faceless deep, we implore you to grant this worthy vessel (Insert your boat's new name) the benefits and pleasures of your bounty, ensuring us of your gentle ministration according to our needs.

(Facing north, pour a generous libation of Champagne into a Champagne flute and fling to the North as you intone:) Great Boreas, exalted ruler of the North Wind, grant us permission to use your mighty powers in the pursuit of our lawful endeavors, ever sparing us the overwhelming scourge of your scalding breath.

(Facing west, pour the same amount of Champagne and fling to the West while intoning:) Great Zephyrus, exalted ruler of the West Wind, grant us permission to use your mighty powers in the pursuit of our lawful endeavors, ever sparing us the overwhelming scourge of your wild breath.

(Facing east, repeat and fling to the East.) Great Eurus, exalted ruler of the East Wind, grant us permission to use your mighty powers in the pursuit of our lawful endeavors, ever sparing us the overwhelming scourge of your mighty breath.

(Facing south, repeat, flinging to the South.) Great Notus, exalted ruler of the South Wind, grant us permission to use your mighty powers in the pursuit of our lawful endeavors, ever sparing us the overwhelming scourge of your frigid breath.

Of course, any champagne remaining will be the beginnings of a suitable celebration in honor of the occasion.

Once the ceremony has been completed, you may bring aboard any and all items bearing the new name of your vessel. If you must schedule the painting of the new name on the transom before the ceremony, be sure the name is not revealed before the ceremony is finished. It may be covered with bunting or some other suitable material.

If you would like a hand naming
or renaming your boat
why not enlist the services
of a professional civil celebrant
who specialises in Boat Naming
and Blessing ceremonies.

White light needs to be 1mtr above nav lights.

Directly above our just above? I'll have to look this up - the nav lights are on the side of the centre console, which I could do but trying to save effort re-wiring by just swapping the short pole for a longer extendable one in the back right corner.

Can't see the mtr reference in the below. Horse from Auscrab gave me the mtr height info and I value his opinions so I would look into it more.

So your proper regs for mounting a 360 degree white light are as Julian said, a minimum of 1 meter above your running lights ( red and green )

It MUST also be higher than any superstructure on the vessel excluding things like rods and antennas.

It must also be located as close to the center line of the vessel as possible but not such a big issues on outboard powered vessels as they do make an allowance for them.

You must not have any more than 4 degrees of arc obstructed at any given time.

The maximum of 4 degrees of obstruction allows for rods and antennas ect.

Cheers fellas, I'll measure it up and hopefully the extendable pole in the back right corner will get it up at least one metre about the running lights. If so, I'm going to have the wiring for this on clips and have separate wiring that can attach to a separate allround white light on the top of the canopy when I have it on the boat, so I'm covered with/without it on.

Hmmm, you guys have me thinking now. The canopy is removable (and has to be removed to get under my carports at home when I bring the boat home - haven't yet) and I'm not planning on always having the canopy on when I use the boat (hence planning the two options). I'm used to having an extendable one in the back right corner (have had this setup in my tinny) but will have a good long look and think and determine whether another location might be better (above the baitboard for example so it gets up higher).

well you might be better off running 2 all round white lights with a plug on each so when you take the top you can plug into it and put a swivel one one the top off the windscreen so if you put the top on just fold it out the way  and plug the top in?

,does the windscreen come off to ?

Hardtop is perfect for mounting anything and everything to! VHF, check! Anchor light, check! Flood lights, check!

Leave it on! It's alloy, doesn't need a car port. My Yalta Craft been in my front yard 5+ years now. lol

In my experience the extendable or pole mounted lights have caused me nothing but frustration. I found the 2 pin connections have a lot of pressure on them from the weight of the pole bouncing which opens them up and of course salt water hitting the pole runs down into the terminals that corrode.

To get around this I used a railblazer mount fitted to the windscreen pole that allowed me to take it off/on as I pleased. Then installed a quality stainless steel mount with screw connection which I connected the light via a flexible cable. This meant there was no pressure on the splash proof connectors used. Never had it fail after I did it this way.

I don't have specific pictures of it but, I found these and hopefully that explains better than my words.

No space in front of my yard to put it Julian and I reckon I'll only use the canopy about half the time, so it will come on/off as needed (easy process).

Brad - the windscreen is removable. What I think I'll do is utilise the removable legs for the canopy and add an attachment/bracket to this so I can mount it above the bait-board. Will also set up the bracket so it is removable and can be attached to the top of the canopy when in use - will just be a matter of a couple of bolts through the frame to achieve this. Will use the current removable light for now and when it corrodes to the point of no return, will put one of the swivel ones on.

Cheers for the input/ideas fellas.

The white light position is confusing. Aussie is perfectly correct. The cops I have spoken to don't care too much as long is it is higher than all other structure and higher than anyone in the boat and a true 360 (like Aussie said rods etc. are ok)

I agree that the 2 pin extendable all round white lights are rubbish. I lost mine on the new boat on the first night trip. My old boat had them and any splash puts salt into the connection rendering it useless in a few weeks.

For my last tinny with no helm or console I put in a vertical 90o rod holder and make up an aluminium pole with a light on the top. This can be as long as you like. The wires come down through the pole and connect to an Anderson plug under the gunwale. Easy to remove and no connection issues.  I used a section of an old pool scoop pole.

For my new tinny I am going to have it hard wired with an antenna type fitting so that it can lie on the top of the gunwale
