Hi all

On Saturday I headed out with @Thorbjorn Hale and a couple other of my fishing mates to a spot we were hoping to catch a threadfin or jew. I arrived by 5:30AM and Thorbjorn was there shortly after. Bait was a bit slow but eventually he got a few herring on a bait jig and I got a couple small schools as well as silver biddies in the cast net. It didn't take long before I was on the first fish of the day, a dirty toadfish. Thorbjorn and I then had a double hook up on some rowers, which were pretty fast and tricky to stop. Eventually, the hooks pulled, and we sent our lines back out.

The bite was pretty quite, and Thorbjorn pulled in a small toady which dropped off towards the jetty. We had a few livies now though, so just waited and waited for a bite. After a couple hours with no real action (well into the run out), some idiots in a Go Boat ran over four of our lines, costing us a fifty-hundred metres or so of braid each. This was very annoying, and even though they heard me tell them they were going to run over the lines, they kept going and didn't even stop straight after. 

We rerigged and got our lines back out, still hopeful of a bite. As the sun started to come out a bit more, and the tide slowed (somewhere around midday), Andrew picked up his rod and held it for a minute. Sure enough, the next thing we heard was his reel singing, and after a decent fight going under the jetty with a few runs, and a good dilly job by Thorbjorn, we had a 94CM jewie on the jetty. Nice! We tried releasing it, but the fish didn't vent and just floated there exhausted. This wasn't and issue though, because Andrew was happy to keep it. We continued fishing, and after filleting the jewie a bit later we decided to cook some up on the BBQ. After eating the fish, we went back to the jetty and sent out some more baits. We didn't get any more bites though, and after giving the jetty a quick clean we called it quits for the day at about 3:30PM (I think Thorbjorn stayed a bit longer). 

Here are the stats of the trip:
Stats:

Tide: 4:10, 2.5M, High, 11:10AM, .7M, Low

Moon Phase: Third quarter phase, decreasing

Bait Caught: Live herring and biddies. 

Bait Used: Live herring mainly. 

Fish Caught: I caught a toady, 1 * jewie caught. 

Tackle Used: I used a Okuma Coronado 5500 on a SIlstar Crystal Powertip rod, an Shimano Aero 6000 on a surf rod, and a Shimano Baitrunner DC on a Kmart rod. 30 pound braid and 50 pound leader, circle hooks, size 4 sinkers. 

Air Pressure: 1021

Humidity: 73%

Overall Success Rate: 50% - good to see a solid fish come in

I'm only guessing here but I reckon it's after very strong men. 

Thor, and Bjorn, as in Bjorn ironside. Thor is self explanatory.

I was genuinely asking for the pronunciation of his name... Like how his friends say his name 🙂

I am interested to know. 

It's like of Nordic origin???🙂

its pronounced Tor - bee- un, confusing i know, it really has an umlaut over the second ö which changes the sound.

Charlie, the jewie was pretty good but I still prefer thready. And no, I didn't cook the toady lol.
