I got down to Bullochys around 1pm got ready and set out to have a fish for a while waiting for Terry to arrive. chucked on a jackal TN60 and proceeded to start working some water. Second or third cast got snagged on some grass gave it a little pull and SNAP rod snaps in half     Dam it snapped right in the middle. had a look and I could see where there had been a slight crush of the blank man thats 2 rods in 2 trips I think ill have to start transporting my rods a little more carefully:dry:

anyway did the same as last time cut the blank down and bodgied it up and got back to fishing. didnt even get a touch before Terry arrived. No fish here so we decided to head over to Mcgavins and fish in some deeper water around the dam wall as the fish didnt seem to be holding in the grass at all.

Started working around the dam wall both Terry and I had Mask vibes on by this stage and it didnt take long before Terry landed the first fish nothing huge but a good start

I then lost my Mask vibe all while Terry hooked up again

Terry then got another couple of smaller fish

I then had on the TN60 in banana again when I got nailed big time this thing had a heap of go I knew it was a good fish straight away then I hear Yep im on from Terry and both our drags are screaming:woohoo: :woohoo: But dam mine has just got me wrapped around something so I head out into the water trying to get it to come off all the mean while Terry is having a ball fighting his monster, Saw Terrys fish swim straight past me and new it was a good one, Still trying to get mine off as I can still feel him swimming around then nothing the lure comes free and no fish. So went over and got my hand in Terrys fishes mouth and WOW this thing is FAT I mean OBESE lol ill let the pics tell the story. Terry has some good ones too

Went 53cm but would have been over 3kgs

Nice fish mate, they have been hard to come by of late. Well done to you both.

I have yet to fish McGavins, do you just walk to the end of the fence and work your way down to the water? I have seen lots of no access signs at the picninc area above?

Lee, bad luck on the snappage...you might have to make yourself a few rods to replace the wounded ones.

Rocket: What? Didn't see those signs at the other end of the carpark

Photos are up

Edit: Fishyman.... mmmmmmm was thinkinga bout it, butnot sure I like casting 19 gram lures with that rod:P

Edit 2: not bad - needed some fish therapy after my exam today. Only had 3 hours sleep this morning... can't wait for sleep tonight :silly:

Good stuff. Seems like everyone might have been struggling because they're holding deep now. Must have guzzled up all the food in the grass.

I may be way off but could the fish have gone into deeper water to avoid the shallows where the grass will no doubt be rotting now which will lower the oxygen content of the water. I think as the bacteria break down the dead matter they consume oxgen and produce CO2.

as i mentioned before my theory could be way off.

Good theory mack. Interestingly where I had a flick there were lots of bait fish flicking around on the surface up in the grass which was why I tried a surface lure to no avail. So it is weird the Bass wouldn't be up there chasing them without a good reason.
