A couple of the admin have checked out the Boreen Point Camp Grounds. This location seems great and walking distance to the Hotel. It also features some stunning grounds. One of the neatest and scenic camping grounds we have visited. In saying that there are only 8 powered sites so first in best dressed.

Johns Camp Ground and Elanda Point Camp Ground also have direct access to some very fishable area although are not in walking distance of HQ. A serious consideration for land based anglers, whether staying there or not would have to be the Canoe and Motor Boat hire at Elanda Point. Prices seem really reasonable and its a great launch point to hit the everglades and Kin Kin Creek.

The Hotel itself is also an awesome option. This place is probably the best looking Queensland style hotel we have ever seen, and thats really saying something! Boasting huge lawns, verandahs and amazing pre war colonial/qld'er features it is really an amazing building with a menu and landscape to match. There is another whole building which is dedicated accomadation including nicer rooms for couples and also some bunk rooms if anyone wants to split the price several ways.

We hope this is of some help to members.

May be worth looking at but if anyone is thinking of launching their boats at Boween Point my belief is that it is very shallow and probably not suited to power boats unless they will be okay in less than 1 metre, there are shallow sholas everywhere and probably knee deep in the middle of the lake

Boreen point ramp is shallow but once you get out a hudred or so meters out it is about 1 mtr deep. The middle of the lake is over 1 meter and there is clear channel markings on the northern and southern entrances. There are some rocks out front of the Sail boat club up to 20 mtrs off shore but the rest of the lake is mud/sand. The shallow shoals are only near the shore. I have a 4.8 mtr and have no problem. For those using bigger boats with a draft of over .6 meters it is probably not the best option and Johns landing would be the next deep ramp.

  • 4 weeks later...

After a lot of discussion at the BRC just wanted to kick start this again...

I am voting for this as the main camping ground: Boreen Point Camp Grounds: www.sunshinecoastholidayparks.com.au/hol...en_point_campground/

Why?

Close to whichever HQ we settle on and close to the Hotel where we are planning a Saturday Shin Dig. although some will argue its going to be a Ho Down and one person was cheeky enough to suggest Hoot Nanny.

Just talking with Booty and I think we're bunking in a pub somewhere...

Freshy call the Appollonian Hotel. We are hoping to have HQ there but even if we dont it will be walking distance to it. Plus this is where we are angling for a Saturday night social as they do a pig on a spit with all the trimmings for groups of 30 or more. This would of course be the plan!

Boreen point grounds look great, I can see it now siting on the beach rum in hand B) That is of course assuming I will be able to camp ;) And a pig on a spit sounds great, what's everyone else having? :woohoo:

Thats gold!!!!!

I can't wait for this one, just the sheer variety of fish that people can target

The Pub is where we are aiming for HQ however the current managers of the hotel are finishing up this month

and the owners of the pub are taking over again.

We can't speak with them until late December/ 1st week of Jan

I wouldn't see a problem given how big the place is and has huge outdoor area etc....

I'm basing my plans around Boreen Point & the pub
