Got to the dam at about 6.30 this morning got the crawdad ready then dinnodadog turned up so off we all went started trolling dennis got the first bass of the morning trolling towards the bubble trail we had nothing so kept looking around while trolling for a descent school to target not long and we came across one, Plasticman hooked up and his drag went running the condition of the bass was excellent 45cm fl.Then I got a fat 39cm and another 45cm then andrew also got a 43cm,buy this time feral, ray and ferg rocked up they came over so did dennis but the bass shut down and we could not tempt them,So we moved on casting and trolling but could not get another touch,I think dennis and the other guys might of got some more but I will let them tell you how they went.It was aslo great to fish a dam at 100% capicty and with great weed beds I will be back there real soon the quality off the bass there would tempt any one. Well Ray and Ferg fronted at my place at 5:30am, we packed the boat and hit road about 6am. Arrived at Lake MacDonald about 7am, could see Stu, Andrew and Dennis off in the distance as we launched. The dam is full, water would have been no more than 6 inches below the dam wall. It is a lovely dam, lots of lilly pads around the edges, great weed beds, some steep banks.

As we left the ramp, we saw fish on the sounder almost immediately. So instead of motoring straingt over to say G'day to the fella's, we dropped some shrimp in, and broke out the lures. No luck, fish just not interested.

So after about half an hour, we motored over to say G'day, to find Stu an dAndrew had scored a couple of good bass on plastics, Dennis had got a couple as well. Well we fished solid for the next 4 hours with out so much as a bite, lures, plastics, shrimp you name it. Fish everywhere on the sounder, all across the flats, right through the water column.

About 11 o'clock, Ray got a little Bass on shrimp, within half an hour they had come on, and virtually every shrimp was getting hit by Bass. Note a lot of size in them ranging from about 20cm to 35cm, probably the majority of them legal size.

About 12 Dennis was leaving, so we accompanied him back to the ramp to say goodbye, then headed back out to use up the rest of our shrimp, probably only had about 20 left by then. The fish were still on and we did a couple more drifts until we had only 2 live shrimp left in the bait bucket, and they went off the bite as fast as they had come on. We decided to call it a day, and head home. Got off the water about 1:30, conservative estimate 30 to 35 bass, all caught on live shrimp, (we had about 50 shrimp) between us for the day.

Certainly would go back.

It would make a great Dam for a AFO meet and fish, as whilst it is electric only, you are allowed to keep your petrol motor on the boat. It is roughly the same travel time north of Brisbane as Baroon, (maybe slightly less) but you dont have to climb the mountain.

great BBQ area, with wood BBQ's at half a dozen picnic tables, and a central (gas or electric) pair of BBQ's.

I'll sort some photo's later.

As the others have mentioned the bass were well fed . My 1st was a 32cm taken on a crazy deep poltergeist [purple] near the dam wall. I then moved up to the bubble trail and picked up a nice one in the low 40s [as per photo] on a g vibe the pink colour. Then moveing around for quite a while trying out a lot of lures with no luck I moved back to the bubble trail and got 1 more small fish on a mirror/purple jackal.

I have been to the dam a few times, always catching a few fish never a lot. But always an enjoyable trip.

Had a great day except that Feral was specialising on manouvereing the boat so that I kept on getting snagged. He would pull up and say we are on top of the fish and wait for me to drop my bait down and then wack the motor into foward so that i snagged up nearly every time. ( well that is my view of what happened)

We didnt catch the quality of fish the others caught but made up in quantity. Feral caught a nice bass that had a serious case of fin rot with most of its dorsal fin rotted away. I forgot to take a photo.

Here is a couple of photos that I took with the first being looking back at the ramp and barbeque area. [img size=500]http://www.australianfishing.com.au/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/P1010620_AFO-cb0397b0b5df9152e07b43626b1b0f4d.jpg

Mate spot on - it looks fantastic. In fact Aaron & Faulked we could try a few flicks on the Friday before the charter? Test out Feral thoughts. Is there any LB fisfing spots?

Brian,

Heaps of land based spots. If you look at the map in the going fishing post asbout the trip, or in your beacon to beacon, it shows the road goes around the dam wall. It doesn't, there is a locked gate. But if you park near the dam wall, you can walk in as far as the scout camp about 1.5k,s a lot of it fishable, or back about the same distance then through the botanical gardens, a lot of the fishable. Also if your feeling like a sit down, there is always the jetty!
