So @Allnighter and @Old Scaleyand I hooked up for a session on the snapper this morning. Expectation and excitement levels were high. Temperatures on the other hand were quite the opposite. The idea was to catch some livies then head to a surefire spot. Bait wasn't really playing the game so Steve and I tried our luck with some live mullet around the 4-5 inch mark that we caught the day before and Darren with a whole whiting frame. This wasn't working too well and eventually a couple of pike turned up on the bait jig from Darren's boat. He kindly shared one with us and they were deployed with anticipation.

First light.

 

Then it happened. I got the fright of my life when an 80cm snapper snavelled my bait. I played it like a champ and Steve scooped the net under it while Darren cheered on. The Quest is over.

 

This post may or may not be true in all detail, however we all got 1 wobbygong each.

Well, it is only fair to say that that triumphant photo would not have been possible without @Allnighter. Now that the quest is finally over, can we please go back to gentleman’s hours? Getting out of bed at 2.30am is for insomniacs and bed wetters.

i have never found it soooo hard to gather bait for flippin hecks sake. Nothing seemed to come together at all today... it was one of "those" trips.

It was a small tide so maybe the old saying of no run/ no fun played its part?

It was however a pleasure to catch up with you Brian and Steve, two fishing gentleman for sure, with a great sense of humour too.

The quest isnt over just yet....

I'll take anything where the water is connected to the Bay. In any case, if I get one, it will be in the bay at some stage.

I thought you were just chasing  the big bay Snapper, as Steve just mentioned, you do realise a 70cm+ bay Snapper would have to equate to a 90cm+ off shore model, sorry Brian, but rules are rules, and the goal posts just got moved, Hahahaha!

I figure that a lot of the bay snapper at this time of year are from offshore so it could still count ??

Now now Brian, deep down inside you must know that an off shore Snapper was never the goal, I see now what desperation can do to a man, we’re just trying to steer you back in the direction of the original “quest” as it seems you’ve been lead astray

Classic post Brian! If I were to do something similar my report would be a heck of a lot shorter. Something like: “I asked the Mrs if I could take the boat out Thursday for a crack at a 70cm Bay Snapper. She said no. Quest over!”

That is always a possibility, but the GP has given me some new tablets to try, so hoping for the best.
