This guy might have to wait for a fish!

Went for a walk along the jetty today to see if the water had started to clear up a bit after all the rain we have had, and saw this guy in the boat on the sand nearby, with the tide going out, might have to wait a while for a fish! . The other guy in the water had a better idea.  Although in all honesty the boat had "Research" written on the side so probably working or something, but it just struck me as funny.

The water is finally starting to clear up a bit and some baitfish are now turning up. It has been months since I saw any bait there because of all the rain and mud going into the bay.

What, didn't see the sand bank or did you just have a snooze and woke up to find the tide had gone out?

We were parked up in Horseshoe Bay and didn't pay enough attention. By the time I checked it was on the sand but still in shallow water. Had to wait a couple of hours.

I remember @crazywalrus telling me he did that also down at the Pin when he had his boys with him ....... and then it got dark ......... .

My brother in law did this over at the sandhills... it was about 2 hours after high tide... they spent the day watching the tide go out... then the tide come in... it got dark ant they had to ring VMR to guide them in as they have very limited boating experience and didn't want to hit anything... I imagine conversations like. "What is that red flashing light?" " I think it means stay away"

I've also risked it a few times taking shortcuts too. Haven't had another fail yet, surprisingly.

I think it's so we can extend the length of our fishing trip ........ either that or we are dodging domestic duties back at home ......

We beached my father-in-law’s 19 foot Haines on one of the million sandbanks in the Great Sandy Straits many years ago. Trying to beat the falling tide back to Urangan late afternoon with the sun reflecting off the water making it impossible to pick the channels (no GPS around in those days). The FIL went for a snooze in the cabin while I went exploring. When the tide turned I noticed heaps of big whiting in the shallow gutters that were forming and cleaned up while waiting for enough water to float us again. We didn’t get home until after 10pm, and with no mobile phones in those days I thought the wife and MIL would be frantic. Luckily one of the old boy’s mates had motored past us and recognised the boat. He dropped into the house and let them know not to expect us home any time soon.

i was fishing in a quieter section down the pin one day and two knobs on jetskis decided to come and hoon around within 20-30m of my boat.  i could not contain my laughter when one ran up onto a sandbank that was covered with about 2" of water and went AOT over the handlebars.  he was fine but he was soooo beached and only about 2hrs into the outgoing tide, he wasn't going anywhere any time soon. 

 

his mate then came and asked me if i had a rope and could help them to recover the ski... should we start a poll on what my answer was? 

 

i personally haven't beached a boat and been stuck in one place waiting for the tide.  I have come a croppa on sandbanks several times but thankfully only briefly.

I would have shown him the rope and taken advantage of the commercial opportunity to mark up the rope 1000% to pay for that fishing trip and the next
