Always do Lee.

I have a feeling they were on the edges because the run off would have meant some food gets washed into the dams. I think that's why they were there - to catch that run off and have a nice feed:)

Who knows, but I think they'll be back down deep like they usually are providing we don't have a lot of rain just before that Sunday

Just a reminder for those who have not gone to Baroon Pocket before,

1. It is an electric or paddle power dam only.

2. It costs $5 to take an electric powered boat on the dam, free for paddle power. Permit is purchased through an "honour box" system at the dam, so bring your $5 so you can put it in the box.(IE no change)

3. You can not have electric canoes on the dam.

4. All batteries must be secured so if the boat turns over the batteries do not fall out.

5. You can not use lead sinkers on the dam (Big W sell enviro sinkers, or use steel nuts)

6. For the bait fisho's The Bass in Baroon Pocket bite on live salt water yabbies, but I didn't tell you that. They definately bite on live shrimp, never caught one on a worm (although I think ray might have).

7. Lee specialises in trolling for Deep fish in the main basin at Baroon, it is about 120 foot deep, with fish often around 30 foot down.

8. I prefer to fish the edges, casting at lilies and weed banks and timber.

9. There are no fishing zones marked by signs on the banks in the arms of the dam.

We will probably launch from the Montville Ramp, as it is a 24 hour ramp, and we all know yaks have to be launched before sunup (dont ask me why, its a yak thing) There are BBQ's there, I'll bring a couple of kilo's of snags for a bit of a sausage sizzle for a latish lunch.

When at the Montville end, the area you can park trailers in is not visible from the picnic area, but there is plenty of room to pull the boats up on the bank where they are visible. So unless you will move all your gear from the boat into the car, best to leave boat in water until after we have had out feed.

5. You can not use lead sinkers on the dam (Big W sell enviro sinkers, or use steel nuts)

I am thinking about coming along.. have a 4m that i can drop the donk of for the weekend.. do i have to remove the fuel tanks as well??

At a guess the no lead rule goes Sp jigheads and spinabaits aswell??

Thanks

Noel

Copied from sweetwater fishing. No mention of fuel tanks. I did have a full copy of rules but cant find them.

Cheers

Constructed in 1988 on Obi Obi Creek, Lake Baroon ( Baroon Pocket Dam ) has a surface area of 400 ha, an average depth of 15 metres and holds some 60 000 ML of water. Its primary use is for town water supply for Maroochy & Caloundra. It is situated 7 km NE of Maleny & 5 km SW of Montville.

Fishing

Stocked species include Bass, Golden Perch & Mary River Cod as well as the naturally occurring Eels, Tandans & Spangled Perch.

The Obi Obi Gorge below the dam is one of the few remaining places where Mary River Cod are maintaining a wild population. The taking of Mary River Cod is totally prohibited both in Baroon Pocket Dam (Lake Baroon) and in Obi Obi Creek, Obi Obi Gorge.

No lead sinkers are allowed in Lake Baroon.

Boating

No combustion engines are allowed on Lake Baroon however electric motors are allowed on dinghies but not on canoes. A maximum of 10 electric powered dinghies are allowed on the water at any one time.

A boating permit of $5/day or $50/year is required & are available on site.

Accomodation

No camping at Lake Baroon is permitted.

You should be ok Stu.

I should be able to attend,

I have seen people trolling s/baits on several trips to the dam. If trolling s/baits it depends on what speed and what depth of water you are in as to the size of the s/bait. If casting to the edges of the weeds a 1/4oz is big enough. Most 20ft HB lures catch fish if the fish are switched on.

yep trolling spinnerbaits work well up there, especially a slow trolled larger SB like 3/4 or 5/8 Oz in te deeper water

Yep Montville end, recommending leaving boats etc in water until after the feed, as they can be pulled up on bank in view of the picnic area. If you load em up, they are not visible, as no room for trailers in the picnic area car park.

See if we can get the scrub turkey V goanna wars going again!

Feral i reckon thats a great idea. One thing i am always slack at doing at these events is getting a group shot. If we get all the guys to pull there boats and yaks into that little bay it would make a good group shot. Just need to get one of the random day trippers to take it... on 20 cameras :P

Sorry for the double post.

Just wondering what sort of rods and reels everyone is taking??

I'll be using my twin power 2500 with my 15lb spool and 10-17lb Td Advantage.

I know that's a little heavy but I really love using it and find it feels a lot lighter than it sounds. My other option is to use the 6lb spool with either my rack raider or 4-8lb procaster X.

I just find those lighter rods have too much give and I can't work the 50mm plus lures with them as well.

I think I'll mainly be using lipless cranks, poppers, diving minnows and a few walkers.

Dan bring the light gear as well, I prefer 6lb mono or braid when bass fishing, but use 20lb with no noticeable difference (even when I dont use leader). I always take two rods anyway, depending on what structure you are passing buy it allows you to have a couple of different types of lures ready to go. Plenty of room for a couple of rods each in the "Silver Bullet".

My standard "bass pair" for lures are my live fibre 1 to 2 kilo rod fished right handed, and my old Jarvis Walker 3-6kilo fished left handed.

One with 6lb fireline, the other with 6lb real braid (some yank brand that escapes me.)

Sweet feral I'll bring my procaster cause it's a two piece and it's got a repaired tip so it's a bit stiffer. IMO my rackraider is just too light for Bassin. Only use it for breaming small plastics and tiny HBs. I just feel like I can't control slightly bigger 50-80mm lures with it. A stiffer tip feels much better to me.

Then again I have bugger all bass fishing caps so I really don't know what I'm talking about.
