sooty grunter

jsut a few months back a saw a kid at deep water bend pull up a nice sooty grunter, jsut wondering if anyone else knew any other spots for them or how to get them

mate u sure it was a sooty??? dont usually get them this far south, migt have been a blubber lipped bream or brown morwong

Mabe it was a ludirck cant think of any other black fish other than the ones already up that it could be.

Recon it could have been a blubber lips bream because bigger sootys have similar colors

Years ago up the Pine river near the paper mill I caught a fish that looked like a tarwhine but was black, was told it was called early something.

Sooties are a freshwater species and since DWB is saltwater it doesn't seem possible that one was caught there:unsure:

nah definately a sooty grunter, as i use to have one in my tank and it was quite mean, i know they tolerate brackish, but did not know of them they gto any futher than the burkedin river, maybe it was a release from a tank. just wondering if anyone else has found any others

cant really see em surviving down here in the cooler water,maybe thats why it took the bait it was lonely and cold so it comminted suicide..

They do all right down here, it was Sooty Grunter we all went fishing for with Steve last year in that stocked pond near movie world wasn't it? We got a few.

according to the dpi this used to be part of the sooties range and they are looking at restocking them into the freshwater reaches of all southern qld rivers
