Hi Guys, 

sadly im on call over Easter this year, but i suppose whats even more sad is that fact its blowing 25kn on the reef so no-one else can go fishing and make me jelous hahahaha

So i decided to go for a sneaky little fish in a spot close to home, an old quarry, overgrown and pretty dense vegitation around it so im not sure how many people are fishing it, maybe a few maybe none!!

But last night showed me you really never know what's on your doorstep until you put your boots on and have a little look, this JP absolutely inhaled a zerek Prawn that my mate was fishing and took off like a barra, went 48cms and released so I can catch it when its 50CM and he can do the camera work !!!

Wow! That would've fought well. I have seen many caught on the Zerek Live Prawn and Holt Production Swim Prawn. Guess they like prawns!

I have no idea and the member who posted is no longer active. However, knowing him he would have found the spot using Google Maps. Looks like it would be worth the time/effort to do the same.

Well, if it's a JP it'll be up in the forested/jungle terrain

of the upper reaches of some creek. I'd reckon lots of walking

and casting.

Google's your friend when looking for spots like that.

Freshwater Creek that runs up to Crystal Cascades is worth a look. You'll cross a bridge on the way up. 

Dunno how much would be National park now but that creek holds some beauties. 

 

On the fringes of the Daintree national park are some good creeks for jp's. 

Look up Mt Spurgeon Rd on goog earth. There a creek there I can see that would be worth a look. 

 

Worst part about walking the bush up there is that bloody wait-a-while vine.

You need a dettol bath when you get home and your clothes are torn to shreds.

Good advice - I am piecing together an itinerary for a Cape York trip next year and had thoughts that catching a jungle perch (or sooty grunter, or both ) would be cool. Haven’t researched yet regarding the likelihood of catching one in winter but worst case it would turn into a scenic hike holding a fishing rod … .

Depends which way you go up but if you're on the coast road then you'll see a heap of freshwater rock pools on the sides of the road, north of Cape trib. 

They all hold JPs. Millions of them. Easy to sight cast.

Heading up in June Ted getting VERY excited . Decided rather than add things to my Pajero to instead upgrade to a Prado that has all/most necessary things (lift kit, snorkel, dual batteries mainly) already - in a bit of a rush but hopefully will find/have it in next couple of weeks. Assuming you'd need a reasonably light rod and line to flick the lures necessary to catch them? Just going to have to see how much room we have when we pack.
