I heard many confronting stories whether it's safe to eat fish caught from Brisbane river (I'm talking about upstream from Brissie CBD).

Would you or not? and why? Is there scientific evidence for that?

Do many people from Ipswich fish that area??? That could explain a few anomalies :silly:

think the same question was asked 3 months ago .

must be one of those recurring questions hey.

have eaten fish from the river for the last 2 years ,I'm still alive .

there area a few spots i won't eat them from .

the bremer river and around the junction area of the bremer and Brisbane river .

will not eat fish from goodna area of the river .

that about it .

bremer cause the thing i saw about Amberly air base and the river .

goodna cause the water looks yuck ,the fish are not healthy looking .

so pretty much if i fish a area and most of the fish i catch there don't look healthy ,i don't eat them .

a pic and back they go .

if they look healthy and nice colours etc ,well i reckon the water is ok.

then i eat them .

i live in Ipswich too .

but i did my breeding after 22 and most of it before i moved to Ipswich :P

We all thought it, and someone actually said it.

I go to Ipswich all the time, usually in a bulletproof truck though

Tomca... no need for the bulletproof truck as my aim is pretty sh!te.

I haven't knowingly eaten stuff from the Bremer or anything West of the Gateway bridge as I have seen what goes in and comes out of the river!!!

Blahhhhhh

heavy metals like mercury and cobalt and pesticides and herbicides are more prevalent in animals higher in the food chain. This is called "bio accumulation" and is a universally accepted scientific observation. Big fish eat little fish and absorb their toxins. I would seriously consider not eating anything that is a top order predator or has been in the river for a long time. first year bullies or pan sized bream are probably not an issue- that big cod you caught near portside on the other hand has every chance of being riddled with toxins. hope this helps!
