* IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT *

When paying for winter camp ensure you put your full name and also winter camp. eg JOHN SMITH WINTER CAMP

We have noticed that already there are numerous payments which have not written this and so we cannot work out who's payment is who's and also what the payment is for. It makes it doubly hard for our bookkeeper to know what the payments are for. If we cannot work it out, we consider this payment a donation to AFO.

You need to consider some banks when paying on line only accept a small number of charaters

i just fitted in what i could and sent admin a pm letting them know how much fitted

mine said jeffreyflynnwin must be an omen B)

Jeff that will be perfect and easy to work out.

Guys there is common sense here...

We were dealing with blank statements and statements like "fish" "payment" and stuff like that.

I usually work out it out based on ammounts and having an intrinsic knowledge of whats going on through the site. However the bookeeper not always have this. For example there was one "donation" made that took about an hour to establish what it was. Shame the donation was less than her hourly rate :)

Anyway I really dont think there is any need to keep on with this.

Lets talk Winter Camp!

Alright. Let's talk Winter Camp. This'll be my first and looking forward to having a flick for some Bass.

More importantly, there'll be some good BBQ'ing going down.

Angus, I'll give you a buzz with regard to the facilities available but I'm more than happy to bring a few racks of ribs along myself.

And maybe some wings...

Having never fished fresh water before, I think it was eddie asked if a bucket was still $20.....how big is a bucket of shrimp?

Are they dead or alive?

If alive will an aerator keep them kicking?

How big are the shrimp?

What kind of hook is best?

What kind of rig is most commonly used?

I know this is aaverage post......promise I'm not taking the pizz

max the shrimp are generally 30 to 50 mm long, very much alive, an aerator and an occasional water change will keep them alive, use a number 1 wide gape hook, pin the shrimp once through the last tail segment, paternoster rig for deeper water or an unweighted hook in shallows or over weed beds

If you buy the shrimp from Steve they come with a container and aerator.

They vary in size, as Jeff said they are usually between 20 and 50mm

NO. 1 or NO. 2 wide gap hook

Unweighted in the shallows and single hook Paternoster in the deep water. You do not need much weight as there is no current.

Wow a few questions!

Ill try and answer them in one post:

Shrimp: Yes these come with a blue water cooler bucket and aerator.

Rigging: Insert a wide gape hook very carefully through the last section of tail. This keeps the shrimp kicking until a bass come along and finds it. Usually use a light (pea) sinker rigged on the bottom (paternoster) to keep the shrimp out of the weed.

Cabins: Plenty of room left in cabins. They usually sleep 6-8.

Fishing: Guys it fished like any other dam in the winter. Fish can shut down making bait easier but they can be caught on lures. In winter they school up so the trick in finding the schools in deeper first then working something (balde or plastic) down to their level and trying to entice a reaction strike. Dawn and dusk are NOT the most certain times of catching bass in winter as they sometimes come on the bite after warming up a bit. Summer if more typical of that hot surface bite early on as the fish are not schooling up as much and more likely to be found on the edges in snags etc.

Pizza Oven: Ray I would have gussed we would be doing Pizzas again on Friday night but ill have to confirm this to be honest.

G'day guys, what's the situation with any late deckie spots even if it's just for one day? Failing tht anyone have a kayak I can loan??

If all else fails I'll pop up just for the camping and shaninagans

Callum

Guys we don't encourage and I don't think Sports Tuition actually allows people just turning up for a party with winter camp people without actually being registered in the event proper. If this was allowed then it would uncontrollable trying to work out who is entitled to (paid for what) as well as negate any reason for people to bother registering.

In short there would be/will be no point running this event.

I realise there is another party involving afo people at the dam that weekend but being lakeside it is quite removed from the winter camp social area.

There have been 2 messages to me regarding a dislikeq of the price and they don't receive my sympathy. The base rate is $75. This includes registration to a afo event (usually around 25-40), 5 hearty meals, snacks and drinks as well of exclusive use of the rec area and the area around the cabins for our social. That's cheap as chips.

Additional costs (camping cabins etc) are costs that would be incurred regardless of the event for people utilizing this venue.

Have to agree with you Angus. This is the cheapest Winter Camp I have been to and really it is a very cheap weekend. The first Winter camp I went to was $180 I think down at the Hinze Dam an awesome event apart from the warm leg  :P I really do not get the conjecture. Most young people drop the $105 dollar or more at the pub on a Friday night, or on piss each month. It is the highlight of my year of all the events held.

I have included my boys this year and I am sure they will thoroughly enjoy competing with the big boys and showing Kreel how to catch fish.

By the way pancakes that wasn't so much directed at you as for all I know you are planning on being there the whole time :)

I have just had a couple of people ask if they can come for the "piss up" so just thought it needed clarification.

Also re the other afo related event, no problems with this being there. Just those that have not been out there before be aware its not mere meters away but several hundred up and down hill in what will be the pitch black.

THe other party out there is my 40th Bday Party.

I have spoken with Steve Wilkes and Angus, so this is all sanctioned.

People attending my party and not paying for the AFO event will either be eating Roast dinner that Im bringing along and providing their own food for the weekend. And obviously not taking part in the comp.

Steve stated that for the shenanigans and frivolity after the food side is all done and dusted both groups are able to socialise or join. He said the more the merrier.

This is not something that will happen regularily. Just that both Dates coincided. And i didnt want to stop goods mates hainv g to have the befenit of both.

Im definatelly not for people showing up at AFO events, not participating but just being there for the social interaction. I encourage people to attend pay and keep these great events well attended.

And yes the Price for this event is awesome and well thought out. But it does exclude families that have 4 or more members. It makes a very expensive weekend for families that are always on a limited budget.

Maybe the brains trust can come up with a solution where Dad (AFO Member can Fish) and family can still attend without the added cost of paying for the event. Ie family can bring own food but still be included as part of the group. I know the logistics of this can get complicated but it is just another way of encouraging more people along.

Richard.
