Brisbane River Bream & Snapper Comp

Dear AFO Members,

I have added some new events to the calendar.

This includes the first ever AFO Bream and Snapper comp.

Stay tuned for more details, but features of this comp will include a live weigh as compulsory.

There will be a prize for the best brace (pair) of each fish. So the single biggest might not win it. It will be about consistancy as opposed to luck

Yeah just Brisbane River.

And a much smaller geographic area to the Classic. Prob from like South Bank to the Rock Wall a the Mouth.

Boaties will be encouraged to take on deckies/non boaters. But it will be induvidual not teams.

I can't remember the last time I fished for bream. And I've never fished for a snapper in the river.

Ando: Spot on mate. This comp will be very difficualt for yakker to quality for. Dead fish will not be weighed in.

Yakkers just need a drag bucket. Let it float along behind the Yak, lots of holes in it so water is constantly flowing through.

I'll be in a similar situation if I take the Silver Bullet, top speed is certainly slower than a yak on the toe!

Never done a comp before, no dead fish weighed in. As snapper can get pretty big there would be plenty of live wells that couldnt handle a big snap. Could it be like the flathead classic and digi camera shots be used as evidence?

Looks like i better get on the job and make myself a livewell.. How big would one have to be that would be able to keep 2 bream alive.. with an airater ofcorse. But still be easy enough to carry around short distances.. ?

if you have a esky just fill with water and every 15min or so empty bit out and put the same amount back in to keep 2 bream alive

might be a bit hard to cary around tho

IMO the sunken wall is hugely over rated. Plenty of heaps better bream spots in the river, just the sunken wall is so well known.

not for bream tim, for squire. as i read it you need 1 of each to win

oh.. ok lol. yeh still from what ive heard the sunken wall only produces the odd squire at the right time of the year, most come from wharfs and deep dropoffs/ledges. Only from what ive heard never caught one myself lol.

Haven't fished the brissy river yet so this would definatly ave me a good chance to get out there and get amongst it with the afo crew.

I also haven't caught a snapper since I lived in melbourne back in 2000.

I've got a sounder, and know where some squire spots are Hopefully i can manage my first brissy river squire. It would double the number I've caught:P :sick:

Ok.

Ill prob make it:

Prize For: The heaviest Combined length of 2 bream. Must be alive.

Prize For: The Heaviest Induvidual Snapper. Doesnt need to be alive.

Dont go nit picking this idea to much as it solves pretty much most problems.
