I think in all seriousness it comes down to a 2 party race with Labor and LNP. As much as I think Newman comes across as smart and arrogant I think he is the better of the two as atleast he has continued to put forward promises (for what they are worth) and policies of his party as opposed to Anna who has thrown in the towel and is now pleading with the State not to hurt her too much.

As for Anna, well she is deadset one that should have been swallowed.

A democratic right is to vote or not, so how come it is the law to vote over here. How many people don't vote and get fined? More easy revenue raisin? And what is the fine??

The political adverts all just snipe at each other, what's that all about? Are the great Australian people naturally aware of all the parties' policies, or do you have to dig these up?

You have the right to not enrol to vote, it is only illegal if you have enrolled and don't vote... they just don't tell you that!

Quite surprised to see Scarlett running again :woohoo: :lol:

The way Qld is setup with no upper house, if a party has a majority of 1 or 89 they will have the same "power", so Anna's adverts make no sense.

If Australia did not have compulsory voting I believe there would be a very poor turnout at the polling booths. Generalisation = Aussies are very laid back. The result of voluntary voting could see over-representations in parliament. e.g. Anna and all the ALP supporters know they are going to get smashed in this election. All the LNP supporters know they are going to romp it in.

Possible result could be a lot of the ALP supporters wouldn't bother voting, so instead of their expected 12 seats they may only get 3. The excited LNP voters might turn out in numbers to make the statement to remove the ALP. LNP could end up with 80 instead of 70. Then to get rid of them they would have to be as bad as Gillard to motivate people to get back to the polls.

Trivia - Hungary is the only other country to have compulsory voting.

LNP for me. I wont be fooled by Green politics. I cannot even consider ALP with their recent associations with the Greens. Katter says some attractive things that don't convert well to reality. Also I can't get comfortable how he is talking sensibly then mid sentence turn into a raving lunatic (or confected passion ?) and then starts every fourth sentence with a laugh stolen from an asylum

Any others would have to be more than a 1 issue/focus independent, otherwise they often prove to be obstructionist on issues they were never elected to influence.

"Donkey votes still have the potential to go somewhere. I bet the greens would not get as many (not nearly) let alone all the funny little donkies if people didnt "have" to vote."

If by donkey vote you mean a blank ballot paper (no box marked), they're just set aside and not counted.

I feel that with voluntary voting you run the risk of small fanatical groups like the greens being way over represented as fanatics are far more likely to turn up to vote than the average person.

I can't support Newman as I feel it would lead to things like the clem tunnel i.e. taxpayer foots the bill, tunnel gets given to private company who gouges everyone using it with tolls. And it hasn't helped with congestion either. on a more site related concern is the fact that the libs have strong ties to the commercial fishing groups, meaning we could see laws like the proposed jew fish laws in NSW.

Lnp for me, I am morally and ethically opposed to labour.

This will be my first vote since becoming a citizen. The last time I voted in anything was a constitutional referendum in Zimbabwe. I voted no just like 99% of the people. Farms invasions and chaos unleashed by a spurned government was the result of that. Australia is a great place and people don't realise how lucky they are to be able to vote and discuss who they want to vote for.

I agree with compulsory voting as much as as a hassle it may be. IMO you can't bitch about an elected leader / govt if you did not bother to vote in the first place. Most of Africa is ruled by apathy, 20% voter turnout, look what that has done for them.

The Clem 7 was predoninatelly Privatelly funded as is the airport link, hence the TOLL.

Getting the private sector to pay for huge infrastructure like this then allowing them to charge a toll is a perfect idea. And lets face it , its your choice to use it or not. I do and will continue to do so.

No I mean people actually ticking a box only for the sake of ticking.

Or worse people choosing a major party (LNP or ALP) based on their opinion "i have to vote for someone".

Or even worse a group of 19 year old girls in my tute yesterday at Uni telling everyone they will be voting ALP because they like Gillard (unaware of course even of the difference between State and Federel elections).

I dont think these people should be coerced when they dont know or care. If they find themselves over the next term really hating the goverment thats in, it may serve to encourage them to become knowledgable for the next vote.

Anyway I wont pipe this tune any longer :)

bad old days of Joe Bjelke Peterson.

yeah, brig it on, brown paper bags, favours for cash in brown paper bags, you are obviously too young to remember what happened back then. I doubt that Newman could possibly be as corrupt as Joh, Hinze, Fitzgerald etc.

More serving politicians have gone to jail for corruption under this Labor Government than did in Joh's days. And quite a few more should have gone but Anna and Peter changed the rules so what they did, they could not be charged for.

Labor are a party of chardonnay swilling lawyers these days, they wouldn't know what a brickies labourer looked like.

The Agrarian socialists in the National party are the closest thing to support the working man has these days.

what ticks me off is people who think 'i don't like party/candidate X, or party/candidate Y.....i like trees and koalas and stuff.....I'll vote greens'.

that might sound simplistic, but people think that way. no person in their right mind could possibly look through the policies on the greens website and think 'great ideas, i'll vote for them'. you'd have to be out of your gourd. i'd prefer people to donkey vote than to vote greens purely because they don't like the major party options.....

It will be interesting to see how representative this will be.

I`m waiting with interest to see how many 10s of million$ of election promises can not be kept, because the State is in ‘deep financial poo poo land’, also will wait with interest, to see if they use a razor or a chain saw to trim/hack Gov departments and services. :(

Being the cynical person I am, I will assume(who ever forms gov)the only thing off limits to cuts would be their pay rises and superannuation scheme.

If the situation is much worse than the Labor government has purported then Bligh and Fraser should go to Jail for Fraud IMO

sadly I don`t think there is a law against political incompetence.

I don`t think we will see an alfoil lining with a white cloud following, let alone a silver one with a dark cloud

Well, looks liek the rest of QLD agreed with AFO, the experts have already called it with 2% of the votes counted. The best bit for me is that channel 9 put Bob Katter, Lawrence Springborg and Clive Palmer in one room to make the most annoying piece of TV viewing ever created!!

Its awesome.

My money is on Katter though as I reckon he may have been in a few good B&S brawls.
